Benefit for a Local Superhero

I have had the pleasure of knowing and being friends with, for over 20 years, an amazing woman, her name is Kymberly Buchan.  Through our friendship and our children, we have continued that relationship.  Though this story is not about her, it is about her truly heroic (and wonderful) husband, Dan Buchan.  Please read  the following article, which will soon be a Press Release published in The Times Union, and possibly other local newspapers:

A Colonie Man Will Go to Boston for 6 Weeks to Fight Brain Cancer

The community of Colonie and Chipshots Sports Bar and Restaurant located at the Colonie Golf Course is coming together to support one of their local volunteer firemen who is now in the fight of his life.

A Benefit is being held Saturday, April 24, at Chipshots, located at 418 Consual Road, for Dan Buchan, a 45-year-old Colonie Volunteer firefighter and family man.

Dan was first diagnosed at age 28, in 1992, when doctors found a brain tumor that was silently growing for years. Dan went through three separate brain surgeries in 1992, 2000, and 2008, including radiation and multiple chemotherapy treatments with only one short 8-year remission between 2000 and 2008.

Dan has been fighting brain cancer for most of his adult life, but is always ready with a great joke and a big smile to warm your heart. “He never seems sick. It’s always a shock to hear he is going in for more treatments or worse, another surgery.” Says his best friend, Mike Markosky of Owego, NY.

“Not only is Dan the strongest man I know, but he has a remarkable way to make everyone feel good when he’s around. He can make a room erupt with laughter... He has a natural sense of humor and his amazing ability to remain positive helps him to keep up the fight.” says his wife Kym, proudly.

Recently, Dan’s prognosis to a Grade 4 tumor on a course of rapid growth is seriously threatening his life. He will need to temporarily move to Boston to receive 6 weeks of Proton Radiation Treatment at Boston’s Mass General. The April 24th Benefit has been organized to help offset the enormous expenses that will be incurred by the family to enable Dan to receive this highly specialized treatment.

Admission to the benefit is $15. Saturday, April 24th - doors open at 6 pm at the Colonie Golf Course’s Chipshots Sports Bar. There will be local comedic entertainment, raffles, food, and more.

And if you would like to make a donation, an account has been set up at the Trustco Bank, c/o The Daniel Buchan Fund, 34 Wolf Road, Albany, NY 12205.

Please do what you can to help out The Buchan Family as they need your strength and prayers during this time.

Thank you so much for reading this post, keeping The Buchan Family in your prayers, and donating, if you are able to.

Please, if you can, forward this post on to everyone you know.  Word of mouth is the best form of travel and help - thank you!

God Bless.
