Happy New Year - January 1, 2010

Well, it is January 1st and I can honestly say I am starting to meet my goals. I know, it is only just beginning, how can I say that? Well, as tempting as it was to go shopping today to get some great deals, as I am sure they are out there, I stayed in all day with my girls as Danny worked. I lit the candle on my stove at 9:15 this am and at 10:12 p.m. I blew it out!

Besides doing the normal mom things, here are a few highlights of my day:

1. I cleaned out and categorized my pantry in my kitchen. WOW, how many boxes of crackers and taco shells can a person have??? Seriously! I am hoping the pantry stays as organized and clean as it does today. I really should take a picture.

2. I cleaned underneath the bathroom sink and boy did I get rid of stuff!

3. I also cleaned out our hallway closet. I had unopened vitamins that had an expiration date of 2007 - yes, 2007. I did have to think for a minute, well they are unopened, but nope, I threw them away. Felt good too.

4. I cleaned Emma and Kylie's room, and got rid of a lot of Emma's toys she no longer plays with. Melissa & Doug wooden puzzles, a brand new ball pit with balls, miscellaneous toys, clothes, etc. I cleaned her closet too.

5. Lastly, my dresser. Everything seems to gather on my dresser. I now have a dresser with a candle burning on it. How romantic!

So, one of my goals for New Years is to de-clutter my house and I must tell you, I am making a start and it feels good. I can't say the same for my garage as that is where everything is for now until I am able to drop off at the local Women's Shelter here in Albany.

My 2010 New Years Resolutions

Ok, so each year I try to do a New Years Resolution, a very pidly one, well this year I am taking a new limit and really setting goals for myself, and my family.

The following are goals I am going to try and reach by year end, here goes:

1. Menu planning. Toward the end of this past year, I tried to simplify my life by either cooking all day Sunday for the week, or making sure we had everything on hand for the weeks meals. As my husband can testify, whenever I cook something, I ALWAYS am missing 1 ingredient. So, menu planning is my first goal. I think I can tackle this one.

2. Since we have our new addition to the family, our beloved American Bulldog "Molly", we need a new fence. One side has a "chicken wire" type fence, the back side has a normal chain link fence, and the other side has a green wooden fence with pieces missing. I would love to get the new white hard plastic fencing, though it is quite expensive. I will speak with my neighbors to see if they want to go in a portion with us to buy and we will install. That is a huge goal, plus a goal of paying cash for the entire thing.

3. Kitchen cabinets. Danny & I have decided that for Christmas this year, (yes we are thinking that far already) we will not exchange gifts for each other and in turn, will purchase new kitchen cabinets with cash. This is something we have wanted to do, though now with setting my goal, it will be reachable.

4. Lose 20 pounds. This by far will be the hardest task for me to conquer as I LOVE to eat, nibble, munch, and of course, I do love to have my beer or glass of wine. All fattening, but so enjoyable. I have a treadmill in the basement collecting dust and I must become friends with it again. I feel at times it snickers at me when I walk past it!

5. Get my house in order. I am what you would call a junior pack rat. I have a very hard time throwing things away, and because of that I have "clutter". I want to "de-clutter" my home. I may possibly have a garage sale this year, but that only depends on if I have the quantity of stuff to hold one and if I really want to give up a day to sit out and sell my stuff. We will see.

I can go on and on and on about New Years Resolutions, but these are the main ones I am going to work on. What are yours???

Good luck in your Resolutions and a very Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year!
